stuffy(adj) - a room or building that is stuffy does not have enough fresh air in it
be supposed to do(v) - used to say what is expected or intended to happen, especially when this has failed to happen
seem(v) - to appear to be a particular thing or to have a particular quality, feeling, or attitude
stay off one's feet(ph.v) - sitting or lying down, rather than standing or walking
get rid of(idiom) - to throw away, sell etc. sth you do not want or use anymore
be/get into sth(idiom) - to like and be interested in sth, or to become interested in it

needy(adj) - having very little food or money
allowance(n) - a small amount of money that a parent regularly gives to a child
pile up(ph.v) - to become much larger in quantity or amount, or to make sth do this
jar(n) - a round container made of clay, stone etc. that you keep food in
savings(n,plural) - all the money that you have saved, especially in a bank
