Lesson7 The Office of the Future (2)

At first, many managers were dubious that productivity could be maintained if employees worked from home. But I think workers and employers have been pleasantly surprised to find those doubts were misplaced. It’s been very successful in many cases.
In fact, the office of the future may not be an office at all. Many stay-at-home workers find it hard to resist the attraction of working from their sofa or even their bed. Some people say that can spark creativity and productivity. Did you know that Marcel Proust, Florence Nightingale and William Wordsworth all worked from their bed?
Lucky them. It’s much easier to maintain good posture at a desk, though. Working in bed can cause or exacerbate neck and back pain. And home furniture generally is not designed to accommodate long stretches of computer use. The real danger with working from bed, apart from potential long-term body pain, is you can become too relaxed and accidentally fall asleep.
That’s definitely not good. Now, desks are generally flat surfaces that often induce slouching. What I’d like to have are workstations featuring a reclining seat that resembles a dentist’s chair, complete with an attached computer monitor stand, a laptop stand and a magnetic desk surface.
Is no having to commute or having fewer interruptions the reason people find it more productive to work from home? Why did we insist on traveling to the office every day?

Life is too short for the indulgence of animosity.
