Why does the adolescent brain have such a circadian rhythm?
One answer from a social evolutionary point of view is as follows.
The most important thing in adolescent development is to shift from being dependent on parents to being independent. At the same time, they have to learn about complex relationships, such as friendships. The fact that adolescents sleep more slowly than their parents is probably a way nature has given them away from their parents.
Nature provided an independent path in a way that they stayed up a few hours later than their parents.
From dependence to independence, the first steps of independence are taken at night.
