連続した物の一番最後の表すため、「最後の」という意味もあれば、「最新の」「最近」、「続く、持ちこたえる、足りる」という意味にもなる。
●「続く、持続する」
・I don't think my money will last another week.
（あと一週間もお金が持たないと思う）
※動詞だと最後ではなく継続を表す「続く」ことを意味します。

●「(ある期間のみ)間に合う」
・This large pizza will last us about two days.
※「続く」の期間を限定すると「…の間だけ間に合う」となる。

●「最後の」
・Check the last page of the nanual for instructions.
(マニュアルの最後のページの指示を確認してください)
※もっとも一般的なlastの意味　時間、順番の一番終わり

●「最後に、残った」
・You're our last hope.
(あなたが私たちの頼みの綱だ)
※last hopeで「最後の望み（頼みの綱）」、the last piece of cake「ケーキの最後のhと切れ」

●「最も・・・思想もない人・物」
・Carla was the last person chosen for the project,but she works the hardest.
(カーラはそのプロジェクトに最も選ばれそうになかったが、彼女が一番頑張ってる)
※the last personで「最も...しそうにない人」となる。

●「すぐ前の、昨…」
・I had to work overtime last night,so I got home later than usual.
(昨夜は残業しなければいけなかったので、いつもより遅く帰宅した)
