Bill Nissen : One thing I can say, with some degree of certainty, is that the increasing use of smart speakers and digital assistants is changing how consumers interact with businesses.

Chuck Salmans : I can give you a good example of that. I recently decided I wanted to buy some dress shirts. Instead of heading into town and going into stores to look for the kind of shirts I thought I wanted, I asked my smart speaker to do a search. My handy digital assistant did the leg work for me, taking into account my purchase history and other data. I am pleased to report that it came up with some suitable options that match my taste and budget.

Linda Grace : Artificial intelligence is also helping companies find the best candidates for jobs. A I collects and analyzes data from many different sources to find people with the right talents and experience.

Chuck Salmans : What I find interesting is how our clever cyber colleagues come up with candidates who may not have thought of applying to the company. And the company might not even have been aware of their existence.

Ueda Shota : Some firms are now using A I to find employees who may be likely to quit, based on variables such as how long they've been in the job, their physical distance from their coworkers, or how many managers they've had.

Bill Nissen : I don't know that I like the sound of that. It sounds rather creepy and Orwellian if you ask me.

Linda Grace : You're not the only person with those concerns, Bill. There needs to be a clear code conduct with regard to privacy and personal information as we enter the age of A I.

Chuck Salmans : One potential downside to A I is that iy could tempt lazy managers to abdicate their own judgement or justify misguided decisions on matters that could have been better handed by a living, breathing human.

Bill Nissen : I've even heard that some companies are using A I to keep tabs on their employees' whereabouts in the office by means of electronic badges. This kind of system can be used to track how much time employees spend at their desks, in the cafeteria, or even in the washroom.

Ueda Shota : Oh, I vote no on that idea. Big Brother doesn't need to know everything we do.

Bill Nissen : A I systems are hungry for data by nature. That can cause employers to violate employees' privacy.

Linda Grace : A I has a darker side. It's true. It's up to managers to use it wisely.
