L121　欲求・願望を表す①: want
☆want「欲しい・必要だ」持っていないもの・欠けているものを求める強い欲求
・Mom, I want an ice cream.
・You want to study harder if you hope to pass the exam.
☆would like「もし可能でしたら嬉しい」wantから生々しさを排除した表現。
・I’d like the Caesar salad, but without the bacon, if possible.　
☆would love：would likeより強い欲求を表す。
・Do you want to grab a coffee?　-　 I would love to.
L122　欲求・願望を表す②：wish、hope
☆wish：現実感のない願望を描くドリーミーな「願う・望む」
・I wish I had more free time.
・If you wish to ask a question, please wait until the end of the lecture.　
・My dad wishes my sister to marry a lawyer.
☆hope：至って現実的な「願う」
・I hope you enjoy the show.
☆wish+仮定法：後ろが節の場合は必ず仮定法になる。過去形が使われ、可能性が無い・著しく低いことを表す。　
・I wish I were as talented as you.
L123　知識を表す：know①
☆know 「知っている・わかる」「知は力⇒知っている⇒～ができる」
・You know, I’ve lived in Tokyo for over twenty years, but I don’t know this area.
・I can’t understand this English manual. —　Ask Ken. He knows English.
・Laura is a great addition to our team. She really knows her stuff when it comes to corporate law.　
・I knew it was Carol as soon as I heard her voice.
・Would you know the thief if you saw him again?
・A man is known by the company he keeps.
L 124　知識を表す：know②
☆know「事実について知っている・わかっている」心温まる使い方・悲観的な使い方もできる。
・That’s OK. We know you can do it.
・I know I won’t pass the test.
☆know「知っている⇒見聞きした・経験した・理解した」
・I've never known her to say a bad word about anyone.
・I've known high temperatures, but nothing like today's 40℃. It's unbearable!
・Do you know what I mean?


1.僕はアイスクリームが欲しい。

I want an ice cream.

２.あの女の子が食べているのとおなじようなものが。

Just like the one that girl is eating.

３.食欲がなくなってしまいますよ。

It’ll ruin your appetite.

I don’t know this area.

I’ve lived in Tokyo for over twenty years.

I keep going back the same places over and over again.

We know you can do it.

I have been doing my best.

I would like to thank you all for coming today.
