K:　OK, I hope everyone has finished their writing. The theme is “Who do you admire most?”
M: Mr. Kawaguchi, I’m sorry, but our project isn’t finished.
K: Really, Miya? Why not?
M: We are writing about the movie director. Do you remember? Well, we wrote to him.
K: Good thinking! But you shouldn’t be too hopeful.
　　Famous movie directors are very busy people.
M: I know, but look at this!
K: The movie director whom you emailed has written back to you!
M: Yes! He said, “Why don’t you visit my movie set to interview me?”
K: Fantastic! What did you say?

P: That’s very kind of you to say so.
J: Well, it’s true. To illustrate your points, you often used examples from your personal experience. I loved that.
P: I think that makes the lecture much more interesting.

P: That’s good to hear. Now, how about some tea?

Ⅲ．Ernest Hemingway　“The Old Man and the Sea”　(91)

　After he judged that his right hand had been in the water long enough he took it out and looked at it.
　“It is not bad,” he said. “And pain does not matter to a man.”
　He took hold of the line carefully so that it did not fit into any of the fresh line cuts and shifted his weight so that he could put his left hand into the sea on the other side of the skiff.
　“You did not do so badly for something worthless,” he said to his left hand. “But there was a moment when I could not find you.”
　Why was I not born with two good hands? he thought. Perhaps it was my fault in not training that one properly. But God knows he has had enough chances to learn. He did not so badly in the night, though, and he has only cramped once. If he cramps again let the line cut him off.
　When he thought that he knew that he was not being clear-headed and he thought he should chew some more of the dolphin. But I can’t, he told himself. It is better to be light-headed than to lose your strength from nausea. And I know I cannot keep it if I eat it since my face was in it. I will keep it for an emergency until it goes bad. But it is too late to try for strength now through nourishment. You’re stupid, he told himself. Eat the other flying fish.

もう十分だろうと判断すると、彼は右手を水から出して、確かめた。
「悪くないな」彼は言った。「それに、痛みなど男にとっては何でもない」
　生傷を刺激しないよう慎重にロープをつかみ、体重を移動して、船の反対側から今度は左手を海に入れた。
「お前も、役立たずのわりにはそう悪くない」彼は左手に向かって言った。「だが、一時はいないも同然だったな」
　なぜ俺は両方の手が利くように生まれてこなかったのか、と彼は思った。片方をちゃんと鍛えてこなかったのは失敗だった。左手の訓練をするチャンスはいくらでもあったはずだ。しかし、夜のうちの働きはそう悪くなかったし、昨日たった一度引きつりを起こしただけだ。もしまた引きつるようなら、ロープの勢いで切り落としてやるところだが。
　そんな考えに至った時、彼は、頭の働きが鈍ってきていることに気付いた。シイラをもう少し食べてやらなければいけない。いや、無理だ。彼は自分に言った。吐き気で力が出なくなる。だったら頭がよどんでいたほうがましだ。顔に押し付けられていたあの肉を食ったら、吐き気を抑えられない。非常用として、腐るまで取っておこう。いや、今さら栄養を取って力をつけようというのは遅すぎるか。間抜けめ。彼は自分に言った。トビウオを食えばいいんだ。
