～部屋の模様替えをした男性(M)が友人(F)を招待する～
F: The walls are bare!
M: I took down my pictures and got rid of most of my furniture, too.
　　It was too cramped in here.
F: Wow.
M: So what do you think?
F: It’s so spacious! You can do yoga!
M: Yoga it! (They both laugh or groan.) Come sit with me.
F: What’s this?
M: A kotatsu heater from Japan.
F: This is so cool! And so warm, too!

◎Dialog 6　　Haori　羽織　～呉服店での店員(SA)と客(C)とのやりとり～
SA: You can wear this haori over your kimono.
C: Okay.
SA: This shade of gray really brings out your gray eyes.
C: Wouldn’t a darker color be more practical?
SA: Well, then… How about trying on this dark blue one?
C: It’s short in the sleeves.
SA: Try this darker one on.
C: I like this one!
SA: Great! It’s haoring success! (They both laugh.)

‘Ah-h-h!’ Seppe stopped, crouched with his hands in an attitude of prayer, and beamed up at Merrick. ‘Momma mia, si!’
‘But you’ve got to be quiet at dinner. And maybe you have some cleaner pants?’
‘Ah, si! I’ve got a real suit at home!’
‘Wear it. Dinner is at eight. Not too late for you?’
‘Late?’ Seppe said, insulted laughing.

　網をつくろっている漁師たちのそばを通りながら彼は言った。「セッペ……今夜ホテルで食事をいっしょにしたくないか?」
「へえーッ！」セッペは立ちどまって、両手をお祈りでもいするように組んでかがみこむと、ニコニコしながらメリックを見上げた。「ほんとうかい？もちろん行くよ」
「だけど食事のときは静かにしなくちゃいけないよ。それからもっときれいなズボン、もってるんだろうな？」
「うん、持ってるとも！うちに一張羅があるんだ!」
「それを着てくるんだ。食事は八時だからね。遅すぎはしないだろう？」
「遅すぎるって？」セッペは自尊心を傷つけられたような声でそう言うと笑った。
