M: It was a family who moved to a new house, but their pet cat ran away.
And they looked for her for ages.
N: Oh, no! The same thing happened to you before. You must have been so upset.
M: I was at first, but listen. To cut a long story, the cat went back to their old house.
　　Luckily, the house was still empty. So, the family could find her and take her home.

　＜ホテル・オルランド＞の前に来ると、セッペは手を振っていった。「明日また浜で会おうね。さようなら！」
「さよなら」とメリックも言った。
「グラチェ(ありがとう)！」
「いいんだ、いいんだ！」
　メリックはホテルに入った。ロビーを歩いていると、四十恰好の口髭を生やした支配人が彼の方へやってきた。
「シニョール・メリック……そのう……」彼はメリックをロビーの片隅に連れて行った。ところが彼がその先を言い出さないうちに、豊かな胸をした金髪のイタリア女が二人のそばへやってきてメリックに言った。
「シニョール、こんなことを言っちゃなんですが、ルンペンの子をうちのホテルに連れてこられちゃ困ります。絶対に！」
「シニョール……ちょっと待てよ、エレアノーラ、まあまあ、私が話そう。第一確かなことじゃないんだし」
「そんあ……確かですとも！」とエレアノーラ。
「シニョール」と支配人は続けた。「ちょっと盗難がありましてね」
