おぼえた日記

2020年2月6日(木)のおぼえた日記

Let’s get started with day Eleven for the month of January.

Hi, everyone!
I’m Steve Soresi.
And I’m Jenny Skidmore.
Thanks for joining us.

In our program, you speak up!
So, let’s practice speaking up with the question.
What did you do over the weekend?
First, I’ll ask Jenny.
Jenny, what did you do over the weekend?

Well, I went to a restaurant with my family.
And the restaurant specializes in crab dishes.

Crab dishes?! カニ料理ですね。

Almost everything had crab in it.
How about you, Steve?
What did you do over the weekend?

Well, I bought some new coffee.
It’s a special kind of coffee that you can get in Japan.
You can put the coffee on top of a coffee cup and the coffee drips down into the coffee cup.
And some people in the U.S. use the phrase “おりがみ” to explain that kind of coffee.

Oh, I’ve heard of that before.

OK, everyone, it’s your turn.
What did you do over the weekend?
Ready, start!

OK, great job.
Now let’s continue to speak up, because this week from Monday to Thursday we have our Skill Tests.

Today’s SPR Skill Test is based on this month’s basic phrases.
And today in this week, our Skill Tests will be in almost all English.

Are you ready to get started?
Let’s go!
SPR Skill Test!

I’ll say something in Japanese, and you’ll express it in English.

Here’s the first one.
隣に引っ越してきたばかりです。

OK, next.
Can you say “12階”?
The twelfth floor.
So, use the twelfth floor and say this.
12階の部屋を借りています。

荷物を運ぶのを手伝いましょうか?

1階に台車があります。

エレベーターを押さえておきますね。

いつ引っ越してきたんですか?

ここへ来たきっかけは何ですか?

英語力を磨くためにここに来ました。

マンションのドアはオートロックです。

And next, how do you say “インターフォン”?
Intercom.
So, use that and make this sentence.
着いたら、インターフォンで呼んで下さい。

OK, time’s up.
Did you try to say each one?
There were some phrases from this month and some new sentences.
Did you remember them?

OK, now I’ll show you some sample answers.
So listen closely.
Here we go!

隣に引っ越してきたばかりです。
I just moved in next door.
  ↓
You can also say “I have just moved in next door”.
But in most cases, just plus the past, just moved in.
「引っ越してくる」は move in を使います。
I just moved in next door.

12階の部屋を借りています。
I’m renting a room on the twelfth floor.

荷物を運ぶのを手伝いましょうか?
Do you need some help with your bags?
  ↓
Instead of “May I help you?”, “Do you need some help?”
You can say “May I help you?”, but that sounds like you work for a store.
And at the end, “with your bags”.
Do you need some help with your bags?

1階に台車があります。
We have a cart on the first floor.

エレベーターを押さえておきますね。
I’ll hold the elevator for you.

いつ引っ越してきたんですか?
When did you move in?

ここへ来たきっかけは何ですか?
What brought you here?
  ↓
We practice the great way to say “きっかけ” in English.
What brought you here?
You can also say “Why did you come here?”, but it’s very direct, and some people might take it the wrong way.
So, as you start a conversation, “What brought you here?”
Let’s say one time after Jenny.

英語力を磨くためにここに来ました。
I came here to brush up my English.

マンションのドアはオートロックです。
The condo door locks automatically.

着いたら、インターフォンで呼んで下さい。
When you arrive, call me on the intercom.

OK, those are the sample answers for today’s Skill Test.
Did you understand?
All right, now it’s your turn to try these phrases one more time.
There’re ten phrases.
This is your chance to do better than before.
OK, are you ready?
Do your best!
Let’s go!

OK, time’s up.
Well, did you remember those phrases we worked on this month?
Today we covered this month’s basic phrases, and tomorrow we’ll have some advanced phrases.
OK, your speaking skills are getting better day by day.
So, see you next time on Eikaiwa Time Trial.
Bye-bye!
