おぼえた日記

2020年2月8日(土)のおぼえた日記

Let’s get started with day Thirteen for the month of January.

Hi, everyone!
I’m Steve Soresi.
And I’m Jenny Skidmore.
Thanks for joining us.

Well, it’s time to have a conversation over the radio.
This week on Monday and Thursday we’ll have Taiwa Karaoke Skill Tests.
And today is our Taiwa Karaoke Basic Skill Test.
In today’s conversation, you’re talking about the rules in the condominium.
But first, let’s warm up with a question.
Let’s warm up!

Before we start, here’s one question from today’s conversation.

Are you new to this condo?

Let’s try it now.

Now, let’s check some sample replies.
For example:
No.1 That’s right.
No.2 Yes, I’m new here.
No.3 Yeah, I’m brand-new here.

All right, let’s try it one more time.
You can use these sample replies or reply in your own words.
Here’s the question.
Are you new to this condo?
OK, now you’re warmed up and you’re ready for our conversation over the radio.

Taiwa Karaoke Skill Test!

Here’s the scene for today’s Taiwa Karaoke.
You moved to the U.S. from Japan and you’re living in a condo.
And today, you meet someone new in the condo who gives you some free advice.
It’s advice about living in the condo.
You’ll have this conversation two times today.
OK, are you ready to get started?
Let’s go!

Time’s up.
Well, how did you do?
Now, let’s check some sample replies as I have this conversation with Jenny.
Here we go!

Good morning!

Good morning!

Are you new to this condo?

Yes, I’m new here.

Oh, I’m Freddy.
I’ve lived here since this condo was built.
Nice to meet you.

Hi, Freddy.
I’m Hanako.
Nice to meet you, too.

So, where did you move here from?

Japan, actually.
So it was a big move for me.

Oh, Japan!
Actually, we had a lovely person from Japan before.
But there was a little problem with laundry.
Can you guess what happened?

Laundry?
Hmm…
I have no idea.
What happened?

Well, she hanged her laundry from the window.
I saw towels, sheets, blankets, but we’re not allowed to hang anything out of the windows.

Oh, got it.
Yeah, in Japan people like to dry clothes in the sunshine.
Anyway, I’ll remember that for sure.

OK, let me tell you some other condo rules.
We recycle, so put plastics, glass and metals in the proper recycle bins.
Have you seen the recycle bins in the garbage room?

Yep.
I’m familiar with it now.
I think I’ll be fine.
We recycle all the time in Japan.

Oh, there are a lot of things.
Do you have the condo handbook?
I can go get one, if you need the copy.

Thanks, but I got one when I moved in.
Thanks anyway.

OK, that’s a great way to complete this conversation.
Now let’s have this conversation one more time.
Just use this chance to do even better than before.
You can do it.
OK, let’s go!

OK, time’s up.
Great job on our basic conversation for today’s Skill Test.
Tomorrow we’ll have the advanced version of our Taiwa Karaoke Skill Test.
Your conversation skills are getting better day by day.
So, see you next time on Eikaiwa Time Trial.
Bye-bye!
