Alvarez tells everyone about the yearly effort to remind people that regular handwashing is a highly effective way to avoid sickness and transmitting germs.
McMillan says that pandemic has driven that message horn and that he washes his hands diligently now.
Alvarez admits that she initially wondered how such a simple action could make a significant difference,

McMillan は、コロナウィルスのパンデミックはそのこと（手洗いの重要性）を大々的に伝える警笛となったと語り、自分は今では入念に手を洗うようになった、と言っています。

A reminder is something that makes us remember, reminds us of something.
Such as “I put a sticky note on my computer as a reminder to call Ted.”
Or an email from your boss might say, “Ah, just a reminder, your progress support is do this Friday.”

reminder とは、私たちに思い出させるもの、何かを気づかせるもののことです。

催促とか督促の手紙やメモなども reminder と言います。

Heather さん：
Escape getting sick, get out of it.
We use avoid about tangible and intangible dangers.
She swerved to avoid a pothole, for example.
Or I’m trying to avoid working with the, you know, who, they drive me crazy.

病気になることを避けること、病気になることから逃れること。
avoid という動詞は、物理的な危険にも目に見えない危険にも使います。

今、Heather さん swerve という動詞を使っていましたね。
道路にできた穴をよけるために急にハンドルを操作して曲がる、ということです。

Lyons says “That’s a message that bears repeating, especially these days.”
When something bears repeating, it’s worth saying it again.
There is a benefit to repeating some important fact or advice.
You often hear things like “I’ve said this before but it bears repeating.　It’s really important to back up a data.”
Or “It bears repeating.　Make sure to double-check all your calculations.”


Lyons が言っていますね「そのメッセージは、繰り返す価値がありますね、特にこの頃は」
あるものが bear repeating する場合、それは繰り返している価値がある、ということです。
何らかの重要な事実やアドバイスを繰り返すのは、ためになることだからです。
例えば、次のような文を耳にすることが多いですね「これは以前にも言ったことがありますが、何度言っても言い過ぎということはありません。データのバックアップは本当に重要です」
または「次のことは何度言ってもいいくらい重要なことです。計算結果はすべて必ず二重チェックするようにして下さい」
