Alvarez urges not touching one’s mouth, nose and eyes.
And McMillan describes how he washes his hands before leaving home and when he arrives somewhere.
He also recommends washing after handling uncooked food.
Alvarez says people should wash their hands before they eat, and Lyons comments on how many people no longer shake hands.


Alvarez は自分の口や鼻、目を触らないようにすることを勧めています。
そしてMcMillan は、自分は出かける前と到着時には手を洗うようにしている、と語っています。
また、彼は火を通していない生の食材を触った後にも手を洗うことを勧めています。
Alvarez は、食事前には手を洗うべきだと言い、Lyons は今ではもう多くの人たちが握手をしなくなったことについてコメントしています。





◆be on the go　　絶えず活動している、あちこち動き回っている


Heather さん：
When we’re moving around or being active in some way.
You might say, “I didn’t have time for lunch today, so I eat an energy bar on the go.”
Or “I used my smartphone to order coffee on the go, picked up my destination.”


あちこち動き回ったり、何らかの活動をしている時のこと。
例えば「今日はランチを食べる時間がなかったので、エナジーバー（補給食）を食べながら仕事をするわ」
または「私は、移動しながらスマートフォンでコーヒーを注文して、目的地で合流した」


杉田先生：
「絶えず活動している、働きづめ」という意味の口語のフレーズですね。
constantly などの副詞と一緒に使うこともよくあります。





◆alcohol-based sanitizer　　アルコール系の消毒剤・消毒液


Heather さん：
We’re all using lots of sanitizer these days.
It’s located at practically every entrance and every business.
Ah, sanitize, the verb can also mean remove unwanted or unpleasant elements of something.
A company might sanitize its history in a book, for example.
Not to mention, past misdeeds or scandals that the company was involved in.

　★misdeed　　悪行；［遠回しに］悪事、犯罪

ここ最近、私たちは消毒剤をたくさん使っていますよね。
消毒剤は、入口ごとに、会社ごとに置いてあることがほとんどですよね。
sanitize という動詞は、あるものにとっての不要な要素、または、不快な要素を取り除くという意味もあります。
例えば、会社が社史編纂の際に都合が悪い過去は削除することもあるかもしれません。
過去に会社が巻き込まれた犯罪やスキャンダルは、言うまでもなく社史から削除されるでしょう。


杉田先生：
sanitizer というのは sanitize「消毒する」という動詞から派生していますね。
今、Heather さんが言ったように、sanitize its history というような使い方もありますね、「無害な表現にする」
まぁ例えば、社史の編纂をする時に過去にあった企業のスキャンダル、不正事件、こういったものを写真に載せない、というのも sanitize ですね。
swear words などが使われている場合に、スクリプトからそうした表現を除く、というのも sanitize です。

それから alcohol-based「アルコール系の」ということですけれども
何々-based というのは、「～を基本とした」「～を主体とした」といった意味ですね。
nitrogen-based fertilizerと言えば、「窒素を主体とした肥料」のことですね

◆alternative to ～　　～の代わり、～の代替物


Heather さん：
A substitute for something or a replacement.
You might say “We’re looking for an alternative to a current supplier.”
Or if we use it as an adjective, “We’re looking for an alternative supplier.”


何かの代わりになる物、または代用品。
例えば「我が社は、現在の納入業者の代わりを探しています」
または adjective を形容詞として使うなら「我が社は代わりの納入業者を探しています」

杉田先生：
alternative ここでは名詞として使われていますね。
別の選択肢、代わりうるもの、ということです。
形容詞として使うこともありますね。
alternative lifestyle と言えば、通常の生活様式ではなく、多数派とは異なると思われるような生き方のことです。
また、政治の世界では近年、alternative facts という言葉が使われていますね。
これは「真実に対するもう1つの事実」といったような意味なんですけれど、まぁ一般的には事実と見なされていない事実、つまり「嘘」ということですね。
それを婉曲的に alternative facts などと呼んでいます。





◆admittedly　　実のところ、確かに


Heather さん：
Alvarez says “That can be very hard to do, admittedly.”
I admit, I acknowledge this truth, Alvarez says.
Things like “Admittedly, our presentation was a bit rough.　We need to improve on it.”
Or “Admittedly, I don’t know very much about music.”


Alvarez が言っていましたね「それは非常に難しい場合があるのは確かです」
私は認めます、この真実が本当であることを認めます、と Alvarez は言っているのです。
例えば「確かに我々のプレゼンは少々大雑把なので、さらに改善する必要がある。」
または「実のところ、私は音楽のことはよくわからない」


杉田先生：
「認めたくはないんだけれども認めざるを得ない」といったようなニュアンスでも使いますね。




◆make it a rule to ～　　～することにしている


杉田先生：
McMillan が言っていましたね
I made it a rule to wash my hands before I leave the house.
「私は家を出る前に手を洗うようにしています」





◆destination　　目的地


Heather さん：
The place we’re headed to, where we’re going.
When we go overseas, you know, we have to indicate our destination country on the customs form.
And it doesn’t have to be overseas, we input our destination into our map apps on our cell phones.

我々が向かっている場所、行先。
海外に行く時は、税関申告書に目的地である国を記入しなければなりません。
海外に行く必要がないなら、携帯電話の地図アプリに目的地を入力します。


杉田先生：
あるいは popular family destination と言えば、「家族に人気のある行先」ということですね。





◆handle uncooked food　　生の食材・生の食品を手で扱う・触る


Heather さん：
In this case, handle means physically touch, ah, work with.
Packages often labeled “Fragile: handle with care”.
And we can use this in a metaphorical sense, too.
Ah, you might say about a colleague, “We have to handle Justin very carefully.　He’s extremely sensitive to criticism.”

　★in a metaphorical sense　　隠喩的・比喩的な意味で
　★be sensitive to ～　　　　 ～に対して神経過敏な、傷つきやすい

今回のケースでの handle は物理的に触る、実際に手に持って作業するという意味です。
小包に「割れ物：取扱注意」と書かれたラベルが貼られることが多いですね。
また、この handle を比喩的な意味でも使うことができます。
例えば、ある同僚について「ジャスティンは腫れ物にさわるように扱わなければならない。彼は極端に傷つきやすく、人からの批判に弱い」
