〇NEWS 　The World's Longest Rail Tunnel Opens Under The Alps
アルプス貫く世界最長のトンネル開通/青函を抜き

The world's longest and deepest rail tunnel has officially opened in Switzerland, after almost two decades of construction work.
The 57km (35-mile) twin-bore Gotthard base tunnel will provide a high-speed rail link under the Swiss Alps between northern and southern Europe.
Switzerland says it will revolutionise European freight transport.
Goods currently carried on the route by a million lorries a year will go by train instead.
The tunnel has overtaken Japan's 53.9km Seikan rail tunnel as the longest in the world and pushed the 50.5km Channel Tunnel linking the UK and France into third place.

世界最長、最深の鉄道トンネルが、ほぼ二十年の建設工事の後スイスで正式にオープンした。

〇Four new element names to be added to the periodic table
４つの新たな化学元素が周期表に

　〇Nh （nihonium） など3元素は国や都市等の名称、Ogは科学者名のようだ。

Names have now been proposed for the four new chemical elements added to the periodic table in January.They are nihonium (with the symbol Nh), moscovium (Mc), tennessine (Ts), and oganesson (Og).The rules state that this can reflect a mythological concept, a mineral, a place or country, a property or a scientist. The name also has to be unique and maintain "historical and chemical consistency". This explains why there are a lot of "-iums" in the table.

Nihonium：
references the Japanese name for Japan. The atom was discovered at the RIKEN Nishina Center for Accelerator Science.
Moscovium：
was named after the Moscow region, the location of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna.
Tennessine：
recognises the US state of Tennessee and the local contributions made to the discovery by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Vanderbilt University.
Oganesson：
honours the nuclear physicist Yuri Oganessian, who has played a leading role in the search for new elements including the one that will now bear his name.

1.BOOSTING CREDIT CARD SECURITY クレジットカード端末ICチップ対応の義務化 「クレジットカードのセキュリテイを高める」
Japanese government officials want retailers to take an extra measure to tackle the growing problem of data theft from credit cards.
The industry ministry now plans to revise legislation to make it mandatory for stores to install the IC chip readers as early as 2018.
IC chip readers are already common in most other industrialized countries. Many stores in Japan, though, still rely on magnetic strip-reading devices.

日本政府関係者は、増加するクレジットカードのデータ盗難問題に取り組むため、更なる措置を取ることを小売業者に求めている。
経済産業省は、早ければ２０１８年までにＩＣチップに対応した読み取り端末の設置を店舗に対して義務づけるという法改正を、現在計画している。
ＩＣチップに対応した読み取り端末は、他の先進国の大半では既に一般的だ。しかし日本での店舗の多くは、いまだに磁気ストライプ読み取り装置に依存している。

More restaurants in Japan are catering to people trying to avoid fattening food.
The businesses are coming out with low-calorie dishes made from healthy ingredients.
One example is a leading chain specializing in a kind of Japanese pancake called "okonomiyaki."
The dish is normally made from a variety of ingredients, including vegetables, meat and seafood, and topped off with plenty of sauce and mayonnaise.
A restaurant employee says the pancakes are unfairly seen as unhealthy, packing lots of calories.
The chain doubled the volume of vegetables in its dishes in April. All are domestically grown.

日本では今まで以上に多くのレストランが、太るような食品を避けようと思っている人々の要求に対応している。
健康的な材料から作られる、低カロリーの料理を提供する企業が出てきている。
１つの例が、日本のパンケーキの１種である「お好み焼き」と呼ばれる料理専門の大手チェーンだ。
お好み焼きは、たくさんの具材を使い、ソースやマヨネーズなどもかけるので高カロリーで、このチェーンでは、お好み焼きは栄養が偏っているというイメージを持つ消費者が多いと考え、野菜の量を２倍に増やした新しいメニューの販売を始め、具材に使う野菜を全面的に国産に切り替えて安全性も高めた。
