「「特に」は “ especially “ではなく
　“ particularly “ を使おう」

日本語で言う「特に、〇〇の点が」と言いたいときには、
特に何かフレーズを付け加える必要はありません。

オリンピックは見ていて本当に楽しかったよ。
（特に）100mのファイナルは
最高にエキサイティングだったよね！
I really enjoyed watching the Olympics.
The 100m final was so exciting!

犬が大好きなんです。
（特に）ダルメシアンと柴犬が大好きです。
I love dogs. I love Dalmatians and Shiba.


どうしても何か付け加えたい、
より詳細について説明したい、
より明確な情報を伝えたいというときには、
“ particularly ”、” in particular ”、” specifically ”
という表現を使ってみましょう。

“ particularly ”、” in particular ”は、カジュアルな会話ではあまり
一般的ではありませんが、ビジネス会話や書き言葉には適しています。
技術的な話や、より深くつっこんだビジネス会話の際に
とても有効なのは” specifically ” という単語です。

“ especially ”は一般的な単語なのですが、ただ単に「特に」
と言いたいときに使われることは、あまりありません。
また、文頭で用いられることはありません。

“ especially ”は、条件をさらに特定するような文章を付け加える
ときに用いられます。また、単に「とても」（ very ）、「本当に」
（ really ）、「いつも以上に」（ more than usual ）といった意味
での “ 強調 ” として使われることもよくあります。

Did you enjoy your school trip?
Yes, I did. I especially enjoyed seeing Kiyomizu.
That’s nice, but I didn’t enjoy seeing the temples so much.
