◆a lot depends on　～によるところが大きい、多くは～にかかっている

This has a significant effect or happens, a lot depends on this market survey, for example.
If the signs of favorable will release the product
Or we’ll there be job-cuts, a lot depends on the new company’s president.

「depending on」といえば、「～によって」「～次第で」ということですね。



◆nonthreatening　威嚇的でない

Doesn’t express or indicate the thread of hurt.
Threatening does indicate that thread.
Like “ She called the police after receiving threatening emails. ”
We also have a verb “ threaten ”.
They threatened to call off the merger.
Customers threatened to sue the company.

「threatening emails」というのは、「脅迫的なメール」ということですね。
「a life-threatening illness」と言えば「致命的な病気」



◆psychotherapist　心理療法士


◆mental health professional　心の健康の専門家、精神衛生の専門家

Ueda says “ I understand some mental health professionals question how effective it is to do things like smashing a TV. ”
People trained to work in a field of mental health for work as a professional.
Medical professional also ???? like include doctors, nurses, physical therapists.



◆confront　立ち向かう、直面する

To face in challenge, to face in defiance.
　★defiance　[ difáiəns ]　反抗、抵抗

He confronted his boss about not getting a promotion, for example.
Or she confronted John about his chronic illness.

形容詞は confrontational で、「対立的な」あるいは「挑戦的な」という意味ですね。
「対立する覚悟のある」というのも confrontational です。



◆personal demons　個人的な悩み

This expression uses the image of evil supernatural beings.
And either things that trauma in people caused mental anguish.
　★anguish　[ ǽŋgwiʃ ]　苦痛、苦悩

Strong and security, for example.　That could be a personal demon.
Or the inability to trust other people.

「demon」とは、悪魔という意味ですが、「悪しきもの」といったような意味で使われますね。例えば「speed demon」といえば、スピードを出さずにはいられないドライバー、スピードマニア、ということです。

「demon」の動詞形が demonize です。悪しきものとして描写する、悪魔のように扱うということですね。

Politicians sometimes demonize their opponents, you know.　They have no morals, they want to destroy our nation, things like that.



◆the way I see it, 　私が思うには、私の見方では

This is what I think, this is my opinion.
You could say things like “ The way I see it, we need to lower our prices. ”
Or “ The way I see it, higher taxes mean lower consumption. ”

「That’s the way I see it.」と言えば「それは私の考え方です。」
「That’s the way It used to be.」は、「かつてはそういうやり方をしていました」「かつてはそういう状況だった。」ということ



◆underlying problem　根本的な問題、内在する問題

The fundamental problem, the problem that’s causing certain behavior, events, feelings.
The underlying factor‘s in the stock market rise, for example.
Or the underlying problem’s causing our high turnover.

「underlying」とは「根本的な、基本的な」ということですね。
「underlying concept」と言えば、基本的概念、ある状況の根底にある根本的な概念という意味です。



◆tide of anger　怒りの波、押し寄せる怒り

We often use tide to refer to a surge of emotion.
The rising tide of anger among the public.
Or a tide of sympathy for the victims.
It can also mean something coming in large numbers or a big mass, you know.
In both cases the images are waves.
The company received the tide of complaints.
Or there has been a growing tide of protests.

「～ of anger」を使ったフレーズでよく目にするのは、「in a fit of anger　かっとなって」という意味ですね。



◆well up　湧き上がる、こみ上げる

This refers to emotions on surging up inside us.
We also use it about sadness.
Tears welled up.　I see heard the sad story.

主語を「涙」にして「Tears welled up.」といった使い方もあります。
And if you just say like “ I’m welling up ”, and that indicated that you’re about to cry.

◆at no cost　お金をかけずに、無料で

For free.　There is no charge, no money involved.



◆say for certain　はっきり言う

Up at the top, Nissen says one thing I can say for certain is that going to an anger room let me deal with negative energy in a safe and nonthreatening way.
If we can say something for certain, we can say without doubt, say definitively.
Say for sure is also OK.
Things like “ No one can say for certain that stock market will rise. ”
Or to use another variation, we can’t know for sure that the market will rise.
