A: ブレンダン、立ち入ったことを質問してもいいかしら?
Brendan, can I ask you a personal question?

P: いいですよ、そんなに立ち入ったことでなければ。
Sure, if it’s not too personal.

A: あなたは今までに結婚していたことがあるの？
Have you ever married?

P: おや、それは充分に「立ち入った質問」だと言えますね。いや、1度もないです。ただし、つきあった女性なら何人かいましたけど。
Well, that qualifies as a “personal question.” No, never. But I’ve had girlfriends.

A: へえ。ただ、結婚したいとは思わなかったのね。
I see. You just didn’t want to get married?

P: 僕は別に結婚が悪いとか言っているわけではないんですよ。でも、女性の教授の下で何年も仕事をしていたことがあってね。結婚生活というのも、そんなものかもしれないと思ったんです。
I have nothing against marriage. But I worked under a female professor for many years. I thought married life might be like that.

A: まあ、お互いにいろいろ言い争ったりしたの？
Oh, did you have many arguments?

P: まあ、それなりにとだけ言っておきましょう。
Let’s just say we had our share.

Under～は、ある活動の「下」にあり、まだ完成に至っていない事を表します。Under discussionは協議の最中であり、結論は出ていないということです。

The typhoon No.11 wasn't as bad as reported beforehand in the last few days, but a lot of fallen leaves were piled up around our yard, so I swept it up.
The leaves were wet that day and it was difficult to sweep, so I did it the next day as well.
Then, it’s about time to have the trees cut in the yard, so I contacted the gardener who has been coming to my house for decades, but I couldn't get through by phones or emails, so my husband and I decided to go to his house after all.
To my surprise, arriving at the house, we found it completely empty and when I asked his neighbor, they said he didn't know why he had suddenly moved or where he had gone to.
In short, I heard he did a flit.
I was so shocked to hear that.
What happened to him?
He was a gardener from my parents' generation and was a very neat and good man.
I was looking forward to seeing him again this year, so I'm very disappointed.
I will never find a gardener like him again.
A lot of things happen in life, but I just hope he is doing well.

ここ数日の台風11号は、事前に報道されていたほどではありませんでしたが、庭に落ち葉がたくさん積もっていたので、掃きました。
その日は葉が濡れていて掃くのが難しかったので、翌日も掃きました。
それから、そろそろ庭の木の伐採の時期なので、何十年も家に来て下さっている庭師さんに連絡したのですが、電話もメールも通じず、夫と二人で彼の家に行ってみることにしました。
驚いたことに、家に着いてみると中はもぬけの殻で、近所の方に聞いてみると、なぜ急に引っ越されたのか、どこに行かれたのかわからないとのことでした。
要するに、彼は夜逃げだったと聞きました。
私はそれを聞いてとてもショックを受けました。
彼に何が起こったのでしょう？
彼は私の両親の代からの庭師さんで、とてもきちんとした良い人でした。
今年も会えるのを楽しみにしていたので、とても残念です。
彼のような庭師さんは二度と見つからないでしょう。
人生いろいろありますが、元気でいてくれることを祈るばかりです。
