The Tokyo Metropolitan Government says it confirmed 502 new cases of the coronavirs on Monday.
The figure is up 160 from a week ago, marking a week-on-week increase for 23 straight days.
The seven-day average of new infections has been rising faster over the past several weeks.
Experts with the metropolotan government predict an increasing risk of infection levels that will exceed the previous wave in the country. They are basing the prediction on increase in people's movemrnts and highly transmissible variants.
The total number of cases in the capital now stands at 182,140.
