The US may be considering a plan to require all foreign visitors to show proof of vaccination before they are allowed into the country.
Media outlets first reported on the plan, quoting anonymous White House spources.
White House Press Secrerary Jen Psaki confirmed that the US is rethinking its rules on foreign visitors. She said officials are working on a proposal for a nsistent and safe international travel policy.
The reports say the administration will phase in a plan that requires foreign visitors to show proof of vaccination. But the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is more cautious. It is concerned about the highly tansmissible Delta variant.
Current US rules restrict the entry of foreigners who have been to certain countries within the past 14 days. They include the UK and other European nations, China, India ,and Brazil.
EU officials have experssed disappointment over the policy.They allow fully vaccinated Americans to visit without restrictions. Many airlines and other businesses have been calling for the US to do the same.
