From Bike Trail to Bike Kitchen (1)
Hi there, Kyohei. You look tanned and healthy. Did you go cycling in the countryside last week?
I went much farther than that, actually-I biked about 400 miles to the Canadian border. The trip was just out of this world. It was a cyclist’s dream come true, and I’m so glad I did it. The route offers views of wetlands, waterways and mountain ranges.
So, you took the Empire State Trail, and covered the whole distance in one week? I’m impressed! Were there many other cyclists on the trail?
There were, actually. It seems to be popular route.
I’m not surprised. Cycling took off during the pandemic as virus-wary people avoided public transportation and hit the bike lanes instead.
Bikes sales are way up in many countries, including the U.S. Used car sales also have shot up, along with used car prices.
American cities are basically designed for motor vehicles. But bike and scooter schemes are now rapidly becoming popular as cities around the world embrace manual or electric micromobility.
Kyohei, the route you took is a combination of city streets, highways and country roads. How tough was it?
It was a very pleasant trip overall, but the 80 or so miles in the Adirondacks were a bit tough. They’re not for everyone. You need to be physically fit to climb the hills.
