Technology to Help Enrich Seniors’ Lives (5)
These operations may bring doctors a step closer to solving the organ shortage, but they remain controversial for some.
3D printing is starting to make its mark in a wide range of industries, from medical device manufacturing to aerospace. Some automakers are using 3D printing services to print an entire car.
No way! Really?
Yes, except for critical parts like the tires, steering system, brakes and engine.
3D printing is also having an impact on the construction industry. A major home builder is teaming with a startup to create a community of 100 3D-printed homes. It will be one of the biggest developments of this type of housing, if not the biggest, in the U.S.
One state university is planning to use its giant 3D printer to manufacture affordable homes for a rural town. The printer squeezes out in layers, like toothpaste out of a tube. The machines can print curved walls, which enables more creative house designs. If 3D printing succeeds at this more ambitious level, it could provide an answer to American’s chronic shortage of homes for sale, especially in an affordable price range.
The world of technological innovation gets more interesting every day. I can’t wait to see what our scientists and engineers come up with next.
The only really smart thing about me is that I know enough to hire men who are smarter than I am.
