Spreading News Deserts (5)

For example, AI is being used to write company earnings reports. That frees up reporters and other staff from having to write “tedious” recaps.
AI is churning out articles, illustrations, fake product reviews and even videos. There’s a good chance that some of what you’ve been reading online has been written by robots. AI software programs that generate text are becoming quite sophisticated. Their output often can’t be distinguished from what human beings write.
I can also see a stronger role for ethnic media as we become a minority-majority nation in the 2040s. Across the nation, there are several newspapers that serve various ethnic communities, including the Native American, Chinese, Koran and Latino communities.
The newspapers of the future may bear little resemblance to the newsprint editions that older readers grew up with. They may be hybrids or online only. For the item being, there will be a mix of print and online journalism. Hopefully the growth of online content will offset print’s decline.
The paper in newspaper may go away, but there will always be news. Replacing paper with pixels may be a better user experience. Even though the conventional newspaper business model is broken, I’m optimistic. Whatever emerges in the future to replace it may be unrecognizable to today’s readers, but it will likely be more timely, more topical and more flexible.

They are able because they think they are able.
