Did you go all out with a Mafia look?
Well, I debated between Al Capone and the Cincinnati Kid, but someone suggested I look more like Baby Face Nelson. Just kidding. Actually, I rented a three-piece suit with a vest, a fedora hat, and wingtip shoes, along with a pocket watch and a walking stick.
Sounds incredible. Where was this gala party held?
At a speakeasy, of course. It was at an old hotel in the Bronx, decked out with a pop-up private bar, a mock casino, and a jazz club. There were over 100 guests, all fully committed to the theme.
That’s a cool concept. The Roaring Twenties was when Prohibition was in full swing and it was the era of the speakeasy or underground club, where people tossed back moonshine.
It’s an eternally popular theme, and I think a lot more classy than man other kinds of retro parties.
And when the shindig was over, the organizers sent us off with party favors. In a nod to Prohibition, we got mini bottles of “moonshine” featuring one of the cocktails from the speakeasy. Plus, little boxes of chocolates with a personalized Art Deco-style label.
What’s the story behind this 90- year-old? What did he do in his younger days, and are there any secrets to his longevity?
