Trump ,Biden make last-minute appeals to voters -NHK WORLD-JAPAN -2 hours ago
US President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden have made their last-minute appeals to voters on the eve of Election Day.
Trump campaigned in five locations on Monday. In the southern state of North Carolina, he called on people to vote.
Trump said, "I was elected to fight for you and I fight harder than any other president has ever fought for his people."
Biden was holding rallies in four locations. In the Midwestern state of Ohio, Biden accused Trump of trying to divide the country. He called on voters to choose unity over division.
Many people have chosen to cast their ballots early ,as restrictions on mail-in voting were eased to address concerns about the coronavirus.
The United States Elections Project says 96 million people--which accounts for about 70 percent of the total votes in the 2016 election--have voted as of Monday noon. Some experts say voter turnout could be the highest in a century.
But the expansion of mail-in voting has been a source of contention, with Trump arguing that it will lead to widespread fraud.
Voting on Election Day begins on Tuesday morning.
