Joe Biden is set to be sworn in as the 46th president of the United States on Wednesday.
The inauguration ceremony with the theme " America United" will held in Washington D.C. At the age of 78, Biden will be oldest president in US history.
After raking the oath, Biden will give his inaugural address and is expected to renew his call for unity among Americans.
Security is extremely tight in Washington after the siege of the Capitol by supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump.
National Guard troops and other armed personnel are guarding the Capitol.
Former presidents including Barack Obama and George W. Bush, as well as outgoing Vice President Mike Pence are due to attend the ceremony.
But Trump has indicated that he won't attend, becoming the first president in about 150 years to skip the inauguration of his successor.
The traditional parade from the Capitol to the White House has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The National Mall, a square in front of the Capitol, is usually packed with spectators, but this time it has been closed.
