NHK poll: Suga Cabinet approval rate at 44% NHK WORLD -JAPAN -10 hours ago
NHK's latest poll shows the approval rating of Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide's Cabinet at 44 percent , up 4 points from last month. The disapproval rat is 38 percent, up 1 point.
NHK conducted the telephone survey of 2,092 people over the weekend and 1,222 responded.
The respondents were also asked about stricter coronavirus measures that were put in place for Tokyo, Okinawa and Kyoto from Monday. The government had already enforced the measures in Osaka and elsewhere.
Three percent said they believe the measures are effective, and 34 percent said they believe so to some extent. Forty-eight percent said they don't believe they are effective, and 10 percent said they don't think so at all.
Asked whether a state of emergency should be declared for regions with a spike in new cases of the coronavirus, 70 percent said it should be. Twenty percent said it's not necessary, and 10 percent were unsure or declined to answer.
Three percent said they plan to during national holidays from late April to early May. Seventy-eight percent said they have no such plans, while 14 percent said they haven't decided yet.
The International Olympic Committee and other organizations are making preparations on the assumption that the Olympics and the Paralympics will be held in Tokyo this summer.
Asked how the Games should be held, 2 percent said they should be carried out in the same way as previous events, 34 percent said the number of spectators should be limited. Twenty-five percent said there should be no spectators, and 32 percent chose the cancelation of the Games.
