Suga : G7 to lead international community -NHK WORLD-JAPAN 5 hours ago
Japan's Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide has said the Group of Seven will lead the international community in tackling the coronavirus pandemic and authoritarianism. He added that all G7 leaders gave "very strong support" for his nation to hold the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.
Suga made the comments in Britain on Sunday after taking part in the G7 summit.
The prime minister said he could candidly exchange opinions in his first in person G7 summit. He said the leaders had the results of their discussions reflected in a communique.
Suga said the G7 countries, which share universal values, will spearhead global order as the international community is facing the pandemic, climate change, economic recovery challenges, and competition against authoritarianism .
He said the leaders set the overall direction toward achieving better economic and social recovery as well as a free and open global order.
Suga said he briefed the other leaders on how Japan intends to hold the Tokyo Games in a safe and secure manner by taking thorough measures to prevent infections. He said his resolve is strengthened by their support.
Suga added he will work with renewed determination to successfully hold the games.
