I was so loach to leave Sakata that the days there piled up,but
now I tured my gaze to the distant clouds of Hokuriku. The
thought of another long jurney filled me with anxiety.I was told
that the distance to Kanazawa,the capital of Kaga Province,is over
three hundred miles.
Once past the Barrier of Nezu,we were in Echigo Province.
We pursued our journey as far as the Barrier of Ichifuri in Etchu.
During these nine days of travel I was worm out and depressed by
the heat and the rain.I had a bout of illness and wrote nothing.
The seventh month----
Even the sixth does not seem,
Like a usual night.
Turbulent the sea-----
Across ta Sado stretches
The Milky Way.
＜越後路＞
酒田の余波日を重て、北陸道の雲に望。遥々のおもひ胸をいたましめ
て、加賀の府まで百三十里と聞。鼠の関をこゆれば、越後の地に歩行を改
て、越中の国一ぶりの関に到る。此間九日、暑湿の労に神をなやまし、
病おこりて事をしらさず。
文月や六日も常の夜には似ず
荒海や佐渡によこたふ天河
