An opinion poll conducted by NHK shows nearly 80 percent of respondents are expecting vaccines to help contain the coronavirus .
NHK conducted the survey for three days through Sunday by calling randomly picked phone numbers of people aged 18 and older. A total of 1,249 people, or 58 percent, responded.
Asked if they expect planned vaccinations to help contain the coronavirus, 24 percent of the respondents said they expect them to help very much, 54 percent said they expect them to help to some extent, while 15 percent said they don't expect them to help much, and 2 percent said they don't expect them to help at all.
The survey also asked about revisions to laws aimed at responding to the coronavirus pandemic.
The legislation would allow punishment for individuals and businesses that do not comply with antivirus measures.
Asked about effectiveness of the revisions, 8 percent said they would be very effective in preventing people from contracting the virus and 50 percent said they would be effective to some extent, while 32 percent said they would not be effective very much, and 5 percent said they would be effective at all.
Asked if the Go To Travel tourism campaign should be restarted after the state of emergency is lifted, 5 percent said it should be restarted immediately, 51 percent said it should be restarted depending on the coronavirus situation, and 38 percent said it should not be restarted.
