Take a ‘sad Day’ If Work Weighs You Down (1)
仕事が重荷だったら、精神休養日を取ろう

Hi, Frank. I hear your son has started working at a hospital here in New York. Congratulations!
Thanks, Kyohei. It hasn’t been easy for him, you know. While he was a resident, he went through a period when he suffered from depression and sleeping problems. That happened to many front-line health care workers during pandemic. They saw so many deaths, it was traumatizing for them. Jima saw people die every day. He held the hands of strangers as they lost their battle with Covid because their loved ones weren’t allowed to be present.
Oh, my heart goes out to Jim. I hope he’s doing better now.
He is, thanks. He’s pretty upbeat, but his experience has also caused him to look at life in a more serious light. He recently took out a life insurance policy, for example. Before the pandemic, he never thought that was something he needed. But dealing with Covid victims and their families shook him to the core, and reminded him of his own mortality.
Jim isn’t alone. More and more young adults have been buying life insurance since the pandemic began. The threat of Covid has made everything seem uncertain.
Front-line health care workers constantly face the risk of infection. And the pandemic has put a lot of stress on workers in general, including the risk of losing their job and increasingly aggressive customer interaction in the retail sector.
