Take a ‘Sad Day’ If Work Weights You Down (5)

Here at A&A, you’re under no obligation to say why you want to take a sick day. Employers generally are not supposed to ask their employees about their medical condition-physical or mental.
That’s good to know. How do people usually spend their sad days?
One thing you can do is to think about how you arrived at this state of mind. A Are you exhausted from your workload and desperate to disconnect from everything? Is your manager making unreasonable job demands? It could be a combination of several things.
A sad day is a chance to refresh your mind, do something meaningful, or simply take a break from daily stressors. While one person might benefit from a massage, another person might want to paint or garden.
It can also present an opportunity to rethink your career. You can sit back and ask yourself whether your job gives you pleasure and meaning.
Whatever you do, don’t spend the day checking your email messages. Self-care is not a selfish act. So instead of thinking, “I should be at work right now,” try to reframe your thinking in a more positive way. “Today is the day that I need to take care of myself, so that’s what I’m going to do.”
Well, this has been a learning experience. And that makes me feel happy.
