Appreciating Humor (2)

But sometimes we can take humor too far. Many companies have become less tolerant of frivolous activities that are considered time-wasting or distracting.
How did April Fools' Day start in the first place?
Its origin is something of a mystery. Some sources say it began after the adoption of the Gregorian calendar in the 16th century as a derogatory term for people who were still using the old Julian calendar. However it began, April Fools' has a rich legacy of pranks, jokes and hoaxes-some funny, some obnoxious. One of the most famous ones was about the “Swiss spaghetti harvest.” A British TV show ran a report showing Swiss farmers happily harvesting spaghetti from trees.
Wow. How could people be so gullible?
I guess they weren’t using their noodle. One of my favorites was the fake report that said London’s Big Ben was going to go digital and that the hands would be given away to interested collectors.
Ne thing I really admire about Americans is that they never seem to lose their sense of humor, even in tough situations like the one the world finds itself in right now.
These are trying times, it’s true. It’s hard not to feel pessimistic and full of despair as we listen to the news about Covid and the war in Ukraine.
