Let's listen.
Man: The report you asked for is almost done. I'm just waiting for some figures from the sales department. Once I have those, I'll be able to finish right away. Thanks for your patience.
Woman: No problem at all. It's only new. It's only noon and we're still not past deadline.
Man: I'll send you the file by email tonight at about 6.
Woman: Actually I have to be away from my computer for the rest of the afternoon. So either tonight or tomorrow morning would be okay. You don't have to rush.
Man: That's good to hear. Still, I'm just about done. So I'll definitely send it by the end of the night. I won't have any time at all tomorrow.
Woman: OK, that's sounds good.
Challenge 2: Listen to a woman giving a presentation about basic investing strategies. What advice does she offer to the audience?
A. avoiding including high risk stocks investment portfolios
B. put money into a variety of investment options
C. transfer savings account funds to certificates of deposit
Okay, here we go.
Okay, now I'd like to talk a bit about basic investment strategies. As many of you already know, age has always been an important factor in successful investment. You may have heard your grandparent say it, "Save early, and save often." The tricky part is "where." Most people think of saving accounts at banks. But while they keep your money safe, saving accounts typically earn negligible amounts of interest. The certificates of deposits, or CDs, available at banks earn better interest, but over a much longer period during which you cannot touch your money. Then there are stocks. Many people avoid stocks because they view them as high risk. And indeed, some of them are. That is why a successful investment portfolio contains an assortment of instrument including higher risk securities. Consult with your local bank. They have lots of information on investment options.
