I wrote in my diary that I was happy to see a shore bird yesterday, but in fact, its voice was different from usual.
Normally, it is a beautiful, delicate voice, but yesterday it was a raspy voice.
In other words, there was someone to threaten. It was a chickadee, an old resident of this area.
It is one size larger than the shore bird.
And today, I heard the usual gentle call of the shorebird. And no chickadee's voices. That means the winner had been decided.
I thought it was amazing that they could beat a bird that outclassed them in weight, so I did some research on the net and found out that they are extremely strong in a fight, and there is an eyewitness account of one bird chasing off a flock of starlings.
I got faschinated.
