After crossing Verbena Mountain and the Valley of Kurikara,
We reached Kanazawa on the fifteenth of the seventh month. We
shared lodgings with a merchant named Kasho from Ozako.
I had heard vague reports of one Issho,a man devoted to our
art,who had established something of a reputaition;but he had
died young in the winter of the previous year.On the occasion of
a memorial service offered by his elder brother,I wrote:
Shake your tomb,reply!
My voice that weeps for you
In the autumn wind.
On being invited to a thatched hut:
The cool of autumn---
Every hand start peeling
Melons and eggplants!
On the road:
Redly,redly
The sun shines heartlessly,but
The wind is autumnal.
