〇現代英語　Service Starts at World’s Longest Railway Tunnel： Part 1(2)

☑Sam’s Note 分詞構文　意味の取り方のコツ
コンマのあとに動詞の-ing形、分詞構文
＊文章からいくつかの語を省略してるので、普通の文に直してみると分かり易い。その際は時制を合わせると正確に意味が分かる。

Doctors in Japan are touting a breakthrough, saying artificial intelligence has saved a patient’s life.
日本の医師たちは飛躍的な進歩を称賛しています。（医師たちは）人工知能が患者の命を救ったと言っているのです。

（今週の英文）
The train left Zurich on December 11, carrying about 500 passengers.
列車はチューリッヒを12月11日に出発しました。およそ500人の乗客を乗せていました。
The train left Zurich on December 11, (and it was) carrying about 500 passengers.

以上のようにLesson 1の「,saying」は「言っている」ですが、今週の文例の「,carrying」の場合は、「乗せていた」という過去の意味になっています。
