Two walnut trees that we can see through the window in the living room.
They have different character exactly, and it's really interesting to see.

As you can see from the photo, the tree on the left is already full of leaves, but the tree on the right is still almost bald.

The difference of character continues until winter.

The one that oversleeps don't wake up until late, but once it wakes up, it quickly become dense with leaves. When it's time to bear walnuts, the one that oversleeps produces a lot of fine fruits faster than the energetic one. Some people come to gather the walnuts. On the other hand, the energetic one doesn't bear much fruit.
When the winter season is around corner, the one that oversleeps quickly prepare for the winter, and it get naked and fall asleep earlier than any other tree around them, but the energetic one struggles not to fall its leaves until later than any other tree around them.

To say simply, the energetic tree is a long-distance runner, and a sleeping tree is a short-distance runner, I think.


応接間の窓越しに見える2本のくるみの木。
それが性格が全く違うんで実に面白いんですよ。

写真を見ていただければわかるかもしれないのですが、左側の木はすでに葉っぱがいっぱい、しかし右側の木はまだほどんど禿坊主。

その性格の違いは冬ごもりをするまで続きます。

寝坊助の方は遅くまで目を覚まさないのですが、目を覚ますとあっという間に葉っぱでうっそうとなるんです。クルミの実をつける時期になると、寝坊助の方が元気いっぱいの木より早くに立派な実を沢山つけるんです。そのクルミを集めに来る人もいるんですよ。その反面、元気いっぱいの方はあまり実をつけないんです。
冬ごもりの時期になると、寝坊の木はさっさと冬ごもりの準備をし、周りのどの木より早くに裸になって眠ってしまうのですが、元気な方は周りのどの木より遅くまで葉が落ちずに頑張ってます。

簡単に言ってしまえば、元気な木は長距離ランナー、寝坊助の木は短距離ランナーの性格をしているんです。
