Malvern Hills マルヴァーンヒルズ
After a long drive, we have arrived in Worcestershire, near the Malvern Hills which are well known for walking, cycling, horse riding..etc, a very picturesque area. My husband has a relative here, she-Mary is the only close relative remaining in England. She is 93 years old and when we visited her last time, three years ago we thought that might have been the last time to see her. However, she is still full of energy and hasn’t changed at all. My husband has a very small family and he is happy to see her. Mary came to New Zealand a few weeks after when our children were born, too. I have a picture that my mother, my husband’s mother and Mary are all together.
While we stay here, we are going to spend as much as time possible with her but we rented a cottage near her house so she doesn’t have to do any work for us. When we come to England if we stay longer than 3 or 4 days, we try to rent a cottage. It is very popular these days to stay in cottages. They are just like renting a small house, all the facilities are there ready to live in immediately including kitchen, utensils, washing machine, books…etc. （this cottage came with even an iPhone) and usually plenty of room and garden to relax. This cottage we rented this time seems really modern inside. Squirrels come to the garden!
長い運転後、やっとウースターシャーに着いた。マルヴァーンヒルズの近くで、その丘周辺はウォーキング、サイクリングや乗馬などの場としてよく知られており風光明媚な場所だ。夫は親戚がここにいる。メアリーという名で、たった一人英国に残っている親戚だ。９３歳なので、3年前に会った時には（ひそかに）夫とこれが最後の会う機会かも、と言いあったけれど、メアリーは今も元気で、全く変わっていなかった。夫には親戚と呼べる人が本当に少ないので、メアリーの存在は貴重なものである。メアリーは、私たちの子供が生まれた時に、NZに旅行に来ていて、私の母、（今は亡き）夫の母、メアリーと3人で写った写真がある。
ここに滞在する間、メアリーとの時間を十分にとる予定だが、メアリーの仕事を増やしたくはないので、近くのコテージを借りている。英国で３泊かそれ以上なら、コテージ泊は最近はものすごくはやっている。まさに家を借りるのと同じで、中にはすべてのものがあり、すぐに生活が始められる。台所道具、洗濯機、本・・など何でもある。ここにはアイフォンまで付いていた。スペースも十分あるし、庭もあり、リラックスできる。中はかなりモダンである。庭にはリスも来ます！
私たち夫婦も犬のチキータとコテージ泊を計画しています。普段はマンション住まいなので、庭付きのコテージに宿泊するのを楽しみにしています。
