Good morning, Will. How was your weekend?
It was fine, thanks.
Did you do anything special?
Well, I was finally able to enjoy doing some writing on the terrace of my favorite cafe.
Oh, that sounds really exciting!
It’s actually quite relaxing. The hardest part is finding a seat because it’s always crowded on weekends.
That’s true. By the way, what do you usually write about?
I just write whatever comes to my mind.


◾︎ GRAMMAR
①enjoy + 動詞-ing 形
僕のお気に入りのカフェにあるテラス席で、やっと書き物を楽しむことができました。
I was finally able to enjoy doing some writing on the terrace of my favorite cafe.
 
enjoy は目的語としては to 不定詞は取れず、動詞 ing 形のみとなる。典型的なリアリティ動詞（実際に起こっている、そうした感じがありありと想像できる動詞）。

②wh 疑問文は空所が大切
ところで、いつもは何について書いているの？
By the way, what do you usually write about?
 
この文の空所は about の後ろ。そこを what が尋ねている。

③whatever (何でも）
ただ何でも心に浮かんだことを書いています。
I just write whatever comes to my mind.

wherever（どこでも）、whenever（いつでも）、ever は選択の幅を最大限に広げる感触で使われる。この文で、whatever は主語の位置に置かれて、心に浮かんだ何でも、となっている。


◾︎ 相手の発言に興味を示す②

ああ、それは本当に刺激的なようですね！
Oh, that sounds really exciting!
 
sound（聞こえる）を使った説明型オーバーラッピングの文。「that＝really exciting〔に聞こえる〕」という意味の文。相手の発言に対して、that sounds は（そのように聞こえる）と興味を示す最適な表現。いろいろな形容詞を用いて日々の会話に使えることができる。
 

私たちはアンコールワットを見にこの夏にカンボジアに行くつもりなんです。— 本当？　それは魅力的ですね。
We're planning to go to Cambodia to see Angkor Wat this summer. — Really? That sounds fascinating.
 
金曜日、先生に大英博物館に連れていってもらうんだよ。— へぇ、本当に面白そうだなぁ。
The teacher is taking us to the British Museum on Friday. — Oh, that sounds really interesting!

相手の発言に興味を示すのは会話の基本的な態度。What a great idea! など感嘆文を使ったり、下記のような凝った言い回しでなくてもよい。

Right. Sure. Oh, I see. Yes. Yeah. Ok. And? And then? Really? Never. Hmm. A-ha. など。

それは怖そうですね。僕は絶対バンジージャンプをやってみることはないだろうけど。
 
That sounds scary. There’s no way I’d ever try bungee jumping!

There's no way ... ：あり得ない・するわけがない
 

それは面白そうですね。私は今週末必ずチェックしてみますね。
That sound interesting! I’ll definitely check it out this weekend.
 
definitely：必ず・絶対※会話に勢いをつける頻出表現
check ... out：（よさそうなものを）見てみる・検討してみる
 

なんて頭が悪いんだ！誰も自分のボスに黙れなんて言わないぞ！
What an idiot! Nobody tells their boss to shut up!
