Let's Become Renaissance Persons! ルネサンス人になろう!
1. I'm sure everyone has heard of the Renaissance. Its literal meaning is 'rebirth', and it generally refers to the period following the Middle Ages, from the 14th to the beginning of the 17th century, during which time there was a cultural, artistic, and economic rebirth in Europe.
2. I think it must have been a truly exciting and fascinating time to be alive, being surrounded by Renaissance Polymaths. Polymath? What a word! You probably know ‘polyglot'. Poly means 'many' and glot means 'language', so a polyglot is someone who can speak several languages. Logically, then, polymath must mean someone who's good at several branches of mathematics, right? WRONG! In this case, 'math' means 'learning', so a polymath is a person who is knowledgeable in a wide variety of fields.

3. The typical thinking of a Renaissance Person was that you can do anything and everything if you have the will to do so. Therefore, they were always developing their abilities to the fullest. Leonardo Da Vinci was the embodiment of a Renaissance Man. He is no doubt best known for his paintings, like the Mona Lisa or the Last Supper, but he was also a sculptor, architect, engineer, inventor, scientist, philosopher, musician ... and so on! And whatever he turned his hand to, he succeeded in an apparently effortless way.

4. I'm writing this because I think we should all at least try to become Renaissance Persons. Now I realize we might not become as widely skilled as Da Vinci or Shakespeare, but we can have the same mindset; namely, believe that we have infinite potential and worth. According to recent research, many Japanese teenagers have low self-esteem, and this can lead to serious problems. As a teacher, I feel that it is my job to boost students' confidence and to increase their self-esteem. I sometimes use short stories with the message that perfection is not necessarily a desirable goal and we should value our imperfections, since they are what make us unique and special.
5. I often tell my students that I will be their 'Aladdin' and invite them to come for a ride on my magic carpet. Then, borrowing some of the lyrics from the movie's theme song, I promise to open their eyes, take them wonder by wonder and show them new fantastic points of view. In a nutshell, I encourage them to develop boundless curiosity, just like a Renaissance Person.

◎あらすじ
父危篤の知らせを受け、長男ジャンは10年ぶりに実家のあるワインの名産地・ブルゴーニュに帰ってくる。妹と弟との再会の喜びもつかの間、それぞれ問題を抱えたまま、ワイン醸造家だった父の死をきっかけにワイナリーは廃業の危機を迎えるが...。
◎この映画の見どころ
夏生 :『家族の気分』『スパニッシュ・アパートメント』で知られるセドリック・クラビッシュ監督ですが、『おかえり、ブルゴーニュへ』でもかねてから重視しているテーマを追究しています。フランス語のタイトルが示しているように、家族の絆が中心的なテーマです。主人公のジャン、妹のジュリエット、そして弟のジェレミーはそれぞれの問題に対処しながら、疎遠になっていた関係を修復していかなければならないのです。
Natsuo：Cédric Klapisch, connu notamment pour Un Air de Famille et L'Auberge Espagnole, poursuit les thématiques qui lui sont chères dans Ce qui nous lie. Comme le montre le titre en français, c'est le sujet du lien familial qui est avant tout abordé. En effet, le personnage principal Jean, sa sœur Juliette et son frère Jérémie doivent renouer des liens qui s'étaient effilochés, tout en faisant face à leurs propres problèmes.
ジョルジュ: 映画全体で問題となっているのが「遺産」です。登場人物たちは、地域の伝統と現代化の間で引き裂かれながら、ワイン造りについて頻繁に議論しています。また、兄弟たちの幼少期を映し出している数多くのフラッシュバックのシーン、そしてワイン造りを巡る話し合いの中でも父親が以前どのように取り組んでいたかが話題になるなど、父の存在があちこちで感じられます。この作品は、コート=ドールで年間を通じた登場人物の変化を見せながら、家族における自分の立ち位置について考えさせてくれます。
Georges：L'ensemble du film pose la question de «l'héritage» : les personnages débattent régulièrement sur la manière de faire du vin, tiraillés entre les traditions locales et la modernisation. La figure du père est omniprésente, à travers les nombreuses scènes de flashbacks nostalgiques qui représentent l'enfance de la fratrie, mais aussi au sein des discussions sur la fabrication du vin, où il est souvent rappelé comment le père s'y prenait auparavant. Le film invite donc à réfléchir sur la position que l'on peut avoir dans sa propre famille, en montrant l'évolution des personnages tout au long d'une année, en Côte-d'Or.
夏生 : 特に大きな展開がないのがこの映画の特徴だと思います。結果的に自然が目立ってしまうのです。その豊かさに比べれば、人間のドラマなど取るに足らないもので、自然こそが主人公なのではないかと言いたくなります。人間たちは大地を耕すのに明け暮れ、それを所有しているのではなく、自分たちがその一部なのだということに気付きます。この大地との関わりが、人間関係、ひいては「人々をつなぐもの」の比喩になっていると思いませんか?

☆映画の中では、ぶどうの収穫、ワイン製造や収穫祭 (la paulée) のシーンがちりばめられているそうです。ブルゴーニュ地方にワインを学びに留学した気分になれそうですね。
高尾山頂にはノートPC持って行ったことがあります。また降りてきて
休憩スポット「 高尾599ミュージアム」にもフリーでWi-Fiが使えます。
ここは全面ガラス張りで開放感有っていいですね。
高尾山でも茶色い場所が所々に「ナラ枯れ」被害。
ナラ枯れは体長4～5ミリの甲虫、カシノナガキクイムシが運ぶナラ菌が原因らしいです。
井の頭公園や明治神宮では対策してるようです。
クリス先生の優しいお声を思い出します。今日のエッセイも先生のお人柄が感じられるエッセイですね。
この天気が今後ノーマルになると思うとうんざりです。
ワイン造りも伝統の生きる場ですね。
日本のお酒造とおなじでしょうか？
その伝統のものが今は国を超えて国際的になっていると言う事をいろいろな場面で感じます。
