Unit 13 An Accident
John was driving home from the station in his car yesterday evening when he had an accident. He was driving along a main road at about 50 kilometers an hour when another car came out of a side road and hit his. There was a lot of damage to both cars, and both John and the other man were hurt. One of John’s arms was broken, and the other man had a bad cut on his head.
Another car was following John’s. It stopped quickly and a man and a woman got out of it. They ran to the damaged cars and pulled John and the other man out of them because they thought, ‘ Perhaps the petrol in these cars will catch fire and burn the two men.’
The man and the woman had some cotton-wool and bandages in their car, so they put them on the cuts on John’s arm and on the other man’s head. Then they telephoned a doctor and the police. Soon an ambulance arrived and took the two men to hospital. Then two policemen arrived too and began to measure things. A truck came and pulled the two cars off the road.
