LESSON 221

Dad, how were the hina dolls sales this year?
They were OK, but we didn’t get as many customers as I expected.
We need some new promotional tools to increase sales next year.
I agree. Do you have any ideas?
Yes, we could make a video and put it on our web site.
What kind of video?
I was thinking of dancing hina dolls.
That sounds difficult. Can you make such a video?
No problem.

◾︎ GRAMMAR
①文の流れ・as ～ as の形
まずまずだったが、期待していたほどの数の購入者はなかったな。
They were OK, but we didn't get as many customers as I expected.

〜だが、の but は反射的に言えるようになるまで練習すること。get の目的語に as 〜 as が使われている。we didn’t get many customers は言いやすいが、we didn’t get as many customers as I expected とは、言いにくい。言えるようになるまで暗唱すること。

②説明型オーバーラッピングの形
それは難しそうだ。
That sounds difficult.

That = difficult に聞こえる（sounds）と、具体的で意味のある単語が使われている。

◾︎ 同意の定型表現①　同意の基本

賛成です。
I agree.

自分と立場を相手にしっかり伝える態度とともに同意を表す表現を身に付けること。agree は「同意する・同じ意見であると言う」という意味の動詞。このフレーズに前置詞を加えると、

彼らの計画に同意しました。
I agreed to their plan.

あなたに賛成します。
I agree with you.

この問題に関しては同意しかねます。
I cannot agree with you on / about this issue.

to：計画や提案への同意、to の持つ「これから」のイメージ
with：誰かに同意、または意見や方針に同意する、人と同意見である、ということ
on/about：on はしっかりと「その上」そのもの、より正確に、同意する。about はイメージである「まわり」が表すように、on よりも少しゆるいイメージ。

I think so too.

わたしも同じように感じます。
I feel the same way.

同じ道を歩いている共感が感じられる同意表現。

それはいいご指摘ですね。

自分が思ってもみなかったポイントを相手が指摘してくれたときの同意表現。

大切なのは心構えで、しっかりと同意を伝える意識が大事。

僕はケンに賛成だな。この件に関しては協力し合うことが肝心だよ。
I agree with Ken. We need to stick together on this.

stick together：協力し合う・助け合う
cooperate, join forcesでも可。

私たちは3%の昇給には同意しますが、勤務時間の延長には同意しません。
We agree to the 3% raise, but not to longer working hours.

※ working times とは通常言わない

過去完了形。相手に指摘される時までは考えなかったため。
