〇外で何が起きているかみてみようよ。　Look and see what’s going on outside.
●look and see　あるものに視線を向けて、そして見る

　　　　look の意味世界「視線を向ける」
☆look 視線を向けるには、視線を向ける方向がある、通常視線を向ける先を示す前置詞や副詞を伴う。at, up, in, over back, through, around など
〇済んだことは考えないで。彼を見てごらん。いつだって前を向いて生きているだろう。
Don’t look back. Look at him. He’s always looking ahead.
☆視線をどこに（何に）向けるか

☆look 「視線を向ける➜相手の注意を引く」
〇ほら見て、丘の下に城があるよ。　Look, there’s a castle down the hill.
〇何時か見てみろ。　Look what time it is.

☆look は動作動詞で進行形にもできる
〇彼は犬を見ている。　He is looking at the dog.

☆look 「～のように見える」
〇私は太郎をみた。　I looked at Taro.
〇太郎は幸せそうに見えた。　Taro looked happy.

〇空を見上げてごらん。今にも雨が降り出しそうな雰囲気だ。
Look at the sky. It looks threatening.
●threatening　（空模様が）荒れ模様

〇よくもやってくれたな！　Look what you’ve done.

〇ちゃんと事実を見ていないじゃないか。　You’re not really looking at the facts.
〇でもね、事実は真実を隠すことだってあるよ。
But you know, facts can hide the truth, too.

〇違った観点から問題を検討してみよう。
Let’s try looking at the problem from a different angle.

〇人のいいところを見るようにしなさい。　You should look at the good in a parson.

〇そんなばかげた申し出は考慮しないよ。　I wouldn’t look at such a foolish offer.


　　　　see の意味世界「視覚器官がちゃんと働いて、対象を視野にとらえる」
☆視覚器官の働き
〇生まれたばかりの赤ん坊は目が見えない。　Just born babies still don’t see.
〇暗闇で何も見えない。　I can’t see anything in this darkness.

☆対象を視野にとらえる
〇ここから最も美しい夕焼けが見える。You can see the most beautiful sunset from here.
〇昨日、山でイノシシを見た。　I saw a boar in the mountain yesterday.
I look at a boar. は視線を向けるがポイントで実際にイノシシを見るまでは含まない。視線を向けていただけで、実際は見てみたけれど、見えなかったということもありえる。
〇彼は公園で私を見ていた。　He was looking at me in the park.
☆彼は私を見ていただけで、私が見えていたか、視野にとらえていたかはわからない。

☆look 「しっかりとらえる➜わかる」
〇彼はそれが大事だということがわからないのだ。　He doesn’t see that it matters.
〇おっしゃることはわかります。　I see what you mean.

☆look 「人物を見る➜会う➜つきあう」
〇私はジョンとつきあっている。　I am seeing john.
☆ジョンをいつも見ている➜付き合っている（see の進行形は習慣を表す）

〇彼女を家に送り届ける。　I’ll see her home.
☆彼女が家にいる状態を視野にとらえる
〇ドアのカギをちゃんとかけてね。　Please see that the door is locked.

〇２０世紀は人間が月に立つのを目撃した。
The 20th century saw the landing of humans on the moon.

〇私は、少年が川を泳いで渡っているのを見た。I saw the boy swimming across the river.

〇車を何度も見たが、何も変わったところは見えなかった。
I looked at the car over and over again, but I didn’t see anything strange.

〇その写真を見せてよ。　Let me look at those photos.
〇でも、すでに見たものだよ。　But you’ve seen them already.

〇お医者さんに診てもらいたいのですが。　I want to see a doctor.
〇すぐに診察いたします。　The doctor will look at you right away.

〇空港で見送らせてよ。　Let me see you off at the airport.
〇ありがとう。でもわざわざ時間を割く必要はないよ。
Thank you, but I don’t want to take up anymore of your time.

〇スケジュールの変更ができるかどうか見てみます。
I’ll see if I can make a change in my schedule.

　　　　watch の意味世界「何かの変化を予測しながら見ている」
〇夕食後たいていＴＶを見る。　I usually watch TV after dinner.
☆テレビ受信機を見ているのではない変化する映像を見ている
〇ちょっといない間子どもを見ていてくれませんか？
Could you watch the children while I’m away?

●look!　ほら見て ●Watch (out)!　気をつけて　●Watch your steps.　足元に気を付けて
●Watch your language　言葉づかいに気を付けて

☆look はなにかに視線を向けて見る
☆see は何かを静止画的に見る、一つの対象、出来事、経験として視野にとらえる
☆watch は動画的に見る

〇昨夜、テレビでおもしろい映画を見た。　I watched a good movie on TV last night.
〇昨夜、映画館で映画を見た。　I saw a movie in the theater last night.
〇先週映画を３本見た。　I saw three movies last week.
☆see映画という作品をみた、作品をみる経験をした。watchは流れる映像を見た。
