The so-called Japanese-Jewish common ancestry theory was once dismissed as a myth, the product of an off-the-wall imagination. However, Professor Emeritus Tanaka Hidemichi of Tohoku University argues that the theory is not mere fluff dreamed up out of nowhere. He points out, “Japanese and Jews share many similarities in religious culture, customs, language, and script, indicating a historical connection. In fact, there are many haniwas excavated from the burial mounds at Shibayama Kofun that bear striking resemblance to Jewish people.“
