The electric vehicle (EV) boom in the U.S. auto market has begun to show signs of slowing down. This is because issues such as rapid battery depletion in cold weather, short cruising range, long recharging times, quick battery deterioration, and lack of recharging facilities, have become increasingly apparent. Since January, many consumers have been visiting Toyota stores all over the US, hoping to get their hands on hybrid vehicles (HVs) instead of EVs. A store clerk explained, “HVs are fuel-efficient, reliable, and affordable. However, those HVs have been in short supply.”

Tempura soba (buckwheat noodles) priced at 3,500 yen and onigiri (rice balls) at 1,000 yen each. Those are beyond what ordinary Japanese consumers can get at an affordable price. In Niseko, now one of the world's leading ski resorts, the prices of everything are set for the wealthy. The purchasing power of tourists is high due to their level of income, assets, and the exchange rate. Indeed, stores do not cater to the needs of Japanese consumers and most of the restaurant menus are in English, with no Japanese menus. The staff at the restaurants are also Westerners, and they do not speak Japanese.
