‘Sober Curious’ Lifestyle (2)
We can scale back our drinking to live more fully in the moment at any time, but January is a good time to start. More and more people are sober curious these days, exploring elements of a booze-free lifestyle without fully abstaining.
It’s important not to take booze for granted. If we’re going to drink, we should make it a conscious, deliberate choice. Think about whether alcohol adds value to our life.
That’s intriguing! I never considered alcohol to be something adding value to my life.
Exactly. Ask yourself about the role alcohol plays in your daily routine and find other ways to fill those gaps. Reflect on how much you drink and why. Is it for socializing? To unwind? Consider whether alcohol really enhances your experience at a party or night out. Pay attention to your booze choices.
Dry January gives our bodies and minds a reset post-holiday season.
This moderation mindset might appeal to people who are trying to cut back on pandemic-induced habits. When we went to work every day before Covid-19 and didn’t have an excessive amount of stress, it was a lot easier to limit drinking to Friday nights.
But when all that structure was removed and we didn’t have to leave the house in the morning, and colleagues wouldn’t see us if we were hungover, alcohol could be a lot more difficult to manage.
It requires a great deal of boldness and a great deal of caution to make a great fortune; and when you have got it, it requires ten times as much wit to keep it.
