How does the wine taste? How do you feel the next day?
If alcohol impacts you negatively, distance yourself from it. Evaluate your use and consider reducing it. Then try not to drink for a while. Experts say this is the best way to evaluate your alcohol use, and it’s a head start on reducing your consumption, if that’s what you decide to do.
But doesn’t alcohol have positive effects, at least for some people? It eases tension and lower inhibitions. Connecting with others who share your goals can help.
I stopped drinking three years ago. There are many things I don’t miss. Most of all hangovers. Alcohol can also interfere with sleep, cause weight gain and worsen anxiety. But I do miss the relative ease with which I could meet new people and make new friends. I also miss the serendipity of interesting encounters.
That makes sense.
My husband is a stay-at-home writer, and he used to have a daily ritual of white wine at 6 p.m. It seemed to help him unwind, shift gears from work to parenting. Then six months ago, he realized he needed to cut the daily drink for better health. Now, it’s just a weekend indulgence.
Opportunities? They are all around us…There is power lying latent everywhere waiting for the observant eye to discover it.
