smart card, smartphone　と「多機能の、情報処理機能を持つ、賢い」の意味が一般的ですが、smartには、ほかに

　　　形容詞で、「生意気な、こしゃくな、抜け目のない」
　　　名詞で、「苦痛、痛み、うずき、苦悩、傷心」
　　　自動詞で、 「うずく、ズキズキ［ヒリヒリ］痛む、〔薬などが〕しみる」

という意味があります。



☆ alternative　選択肢、代わり、代替、代案、　代替の、代わりの

代替医療は、より広く受け入れられるようになってきている。
　 Alternative medicine is becoming more widely accepted.

ニュース本文では、名詞で「別の選択肢」という意味で、as alternatives to regular tickets「通常の乗車券の代わり」という使われ方でした。
例文は「従来とは異なる新方式の、代替の」という意味の形容詞で、alternative medicine（代替医療）として使われています。近代医学などを用いる通常の医療に対して、食事療法や運動療法、カイロプラクティックといった代替の医療を指しています。ちなみに「代替エネルギー」は、alternative energyと言います。

The phrase " It's just not cricket" is used in English to say that something is unfair or dishonest.

Examples:

I can't believe you got a ticket for the party and I didn't. 　It's just not cricket.

You can't copy your essay from the internet! 　It's just not cricket.

Diana admitted that she cheated in her A Level exams to get a place in a top university. It's just not cricket.

Another way of saying that something is unfair or unacceptable is " It's just not on."

Example:

Peter calls in sick every Monday – it's just not on.
