☆ double as　　二役をこなす、兼務する

ガイドは、臨時に言語通訳者の役目も兼ねなくてはならない場合がよくある。
Guides must often double as temporary language interpreters.

double は他動詞として「二倍にする」、自動詞としても「二倍になる」の意味で使われます。
例文のdoubleは自動詞で「二役をこなす」「兼務する」の意味です。double as…の形で覚えておきましょう。主語は必ずしも「人」ではなく、「物」を主語にして「一台二役」の意味でも使えます。

I come to the chrry blossom festival every year because they're gorgous.
