✤✤✤✤レム睡眠が洞察力を養う


In the test after a good night's sleep, the brain seen on the MRI shows a gentle U-curve, and it is acknowledged that the brain reads facial expressions accurately.
Looking at the pictures with subtly different facial expressions, the brain distinguishes between "friend" and "foe" without any doubt.
Not only the activity in the brain, but also the subjects' own answers told us that their judgments were correct.
They didn't miss any small signs that his facial expressions emitted.

一晩熟睡した時のテストでは、MRIで見た脳の働きは緩やかなUカーブを描いていて、正確に表情を読み取っていることが認められる。微妙に違う表情の写真を見ながら、脳は何の疑いもなく「敵」と「味方」を判別していく。脳内の活動だけでなく、被験者自身の答えも、判断が正しいことを物語っていた。表情が発するどんな小さなサインも見逃していない。

そして、レム睡眠の質も大いに関係があることが確認された。レム睡眠の質が高い人ほど、脳の調律も正確になっていた。


But what happens when the same subjects are now deprived of sleep?
Deprived of their precious REM sleep, they could no longer accurately read his facial expressions.
MRIs no longer showed the clean curves of a good night's sleep. They would rise all the way from the bottom to the top, and then just flatten out.

しかし、同じ被験者が、今度は睡眠を奪われたらどうなるか？貴重なレム睡眠を奪われた彼らは、もう正確に表情を読み取ることができなくなっていた。MRI で見ても、充分に寝た時のきれいなカーブはもう認められない。一番下から一番上に一気に上昇し、そして後はただ平たんになる。


The brain just overreacts, unable to read the subtle differences in signals sent by facial expressions. The ability to read other people's facial expressions has gone away.

脳はただ過剰に反応するだけで、表情が送る信号の微妙な違いを読み取ることができない。他人の表情を読み取る能力はどこかへ行ってしまった。
